A Soldiers Life at The Newcastle Discovery Museum
A Grade II listed building in the Centre of Newcastle upon Tyne which has benefited from major investment over the last few years. This large museum houses a number of diverse and interesting collections which together with a changing programme of temporary exhibition ensure an interesting and informative visit whatever your background or interests.
This Gallery which houses the collections of 15th 19th The King's Royal Hussars and Northumberland Hussars, was an award winner when launched in 1995. It has undergone a total transformation as part of the Museum's exciting £12.5 million redevelopment. The Gallery re- opened its doors to the public on Saturday 22 February 2003.
New innovative technology has been introduced in several areas without disturbing the social history approach, which concentrates on the soldier rather than on campaigns or the hardware of war. It is both an explanation of the role of the soldier and a commemoration of regimental achievements. New displays depict the Home Front during World War II and the first decade of The Light Dragoons.
