Specialist Roles

In order for The Light Dragoons to fulfil their task on the battlefield, soldiers are required to become experts in a variety of specialist tasks. These include:

Driver

Your first role will be as a specialist driver and mechanic in a Sabre Troop on one of the fast Scimitar recce vehicles, the sports car of armour. As part of a small team you will also set up observation posts and conduct patrols.

Gunner

Once you have mastered the driver's seat you will be trained to operate the weapons systems on the Scimitar including the 30mm Cannon and the 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun.

Guided Weapons Controller

You will be operating the Army’s brand new anti-tank missile system – Javelin. Forget PlayStation, this is the real thing!

Forward Air Controller

You will be infiltrating behind enemy lines, using laser target markers to guide fast jets and Apache attack helicopters towards their targets.

Support Trooper

You are a multi-talented soldier, carrying out dismounted demolitions, route denial using chain saw and tree charges, tank hunting, ambushes and force protection.

Sniper

You will be trained in the highest standards of fieldcraft and marksmanship with a sniper rifle to operate independently of the remainder of the squadron.

Signaller

Communications are vital in order to get information back across vast distances; the Signaller will use a variety of up-to-date specialist communications equipment from encoded burst transmission devices to the new digital battlefield.
