A Welcome Home Fit For Heroes
11th December 2007
From little boys waving flags to proud Second World War veterans, a Norfolk town turned out in force to welcome home the heroes of The Light Dragoons.
Having served 6 months in Afghanistan, more than 170 soldiers from the Swanton Morley based Regiment marched through the streets of Dereham as crowds clapped and cheered with pride. Senior military figures said it was one of the most successful welcome home parades anywhere in the country.
The parade was followed by a civic reception where each soldier was given a commemorative T-shirt and a specially commissioned Breckland Hero beer.
Since october 2006 The Light Dragoons have been deployed on Operation HERRICKat the forefront of fighting against the Taliban Afghanistan.
"I am very proud to be in a position to welcome The Light Dragoons home from Afghanistan. They have done a fantastic job. It is true to say that they have just returned from active service from one of the most dangerous places on earth" Peter Francis, chairman, Breckland Council
