Colonel of the Regiment visits Iraq

In early September the Colonel of the Regiment, Lieutenant General Sir Roderick Cordy Simpson OBE, CB visited The Light Dragoons in Iraq. General Cordy Simpson stayed with the Regiment in Camp Smitty for three days during which time he was hosted by The Light Dragoon CO, Lt Col Robin Matthews.

The General spent a morning with C Squadron which included a Merlin flight to the Iraq / Saudi border to visit Support Troop where Lt Badham briefed General Cordy Simpson on the progress being made with the DBE (Department of Border Enforcement).

The General also spent an afternoon with B Squadron in the nearby town of As Samawah. This included a visit to the PJOC (Provincial Joint Operations Centre) under the guidance of Lt Villiers and a vehicle patrol through the town with B Squadron Leader, Major Ed Kennedy. General Cordy Simpson is chairman of SSVC (British Forces Media) and used the opportunity to visit BFBS in Basra which relays radio and television to the British forces in Iraq.
